HTTYD Charas: Sigrid Henderson and Voltage

Sigrid Henderson
Born to Edgar the Stubborn, Sigrid is a member of the Stormchaser Viking tribe. A gender biased society, Sigrid was expected to conform to women's role, namely as the cooks, craft-makers and caretakers. In addition, Sigrid was betrothed to the Chief's son, Baldr Armstrong. However, Sigrid was interested in learning to fight and training a dragon, but wasn't allowed either of these because of her gender. In secret, she observed the boys' training sessions and taught herself swordplay and archery. When it came to dragon training, Sigrid snuck into the arena and encountered Baldr's dragon, the only Skrill. The two formed an immediate bond, with Sigrid renaming him Voltage. Sigrid's secret was eventually discovered, and to avoid persecution, she fled Stormchaser island with Voltage, effectively making her a fugitive since she has "stolen" Voltage from Baldr. Sigrid is a skilled swordsman, archer and flyer, capable of maneuvering through violent storms and utilizing lightning bolts to achieve sonic speed. She is highly competitive and eager to prove herself and dislikes being judged based on her gender. With Voltage, she travels the world to find her own destiny, while being pursued by Baldr, who is intent on getting his dragon back and forcing Sigrid to be his wife and take her "rightful place" in society.

Voltage
Voltage "Volt" is a Skrill and Sigrid's dragon. The only Skrill to have recently been captured by Stormchasers, he was given to Baldr Armstrong, who gave him an absolutely horrible name. Voltage was very rebellious and hated Baldr's harsh treatment and temperament, but found a strong bond with Baldr's betrothed, Sigrid Henderson, who renamed him Voltage. When Sigrid was to be persecuted for breaking Stormchaser tradition, Voltage helped her escape. Voltage is playful and affectionate to Sigrid - sometimes shocking her to frizz her hair on purpose, but easily turns hostile and protective when he senses danger. He is slow to trust others, but will do whatever Sigrid says. He can breath white fire, shock others with his static electricity and ride lightning bolts to achieve sonic speed.

Stormchasers
The Stormchaser Viking tribe is a very isolated tribe located on Stormchaser island, which is surrounded by powerful storms that rip up nearly any boat that attempts to sail through. The society is very gender biased, with men as the warriors and women as the caretakers. Women, by law, are not allowed to learn to fight or posses a dragon. Because of the storms that surround the island, Skrills are common, but highly elusive to capture and even more difficult to train. In addition, the title "Stormchaser" is one of great prestige and respect. In order to attain this title, one must master a Skrill, fly into a storm and ride a lightning bolt. The only one to have done this was Anvindr the Stormchaser, great-great grandfather of Sigrid Henderson. Though Sigrid has also accomplished this in fleeing Stormchaser island to avoid persecution for her breach of tradition, the tribe does not acknowledge her Stormchaser title because of her gender.

I'm actually surprised that it took this long for me to make a HTTYD character, especially since I absolutely love the movie. And if it is being question, yes this will be in a collaboration with *TAU300.

At first, I would have chosen the Whispering Death, and while I like the dragon, it was not what I had been expecting when I first saw it in the film. So, I looked to other options and came to the Skrill: an elusive dragon, much like the Night Fury - which I would have picked if it wasn't the main character's dragon - with a correlation with lightning, an element I love. The design of Voltage's wings are based on the symbol for volts (the measurement) and I based my picture on a drawing of a Skrill, while throwing in a few details of my own ^_^

The thundercloud and lightning bolt make up the Stormchaser crest.

Name origins:
-Sigrid: Scandinavian meaning "victory" "wisdom" and "beautiful"
-Henderson: common Scottish name
-Voltage: electrical potential difference between two points and is measured in volts
-Baldr: Norse god
-Anvindr: Norse meaning "against the wind"
