Garnett Mythos the Phoenix by Zephyros-Phoenix Garnett Mythos the Phoenix by Zephyros-Phoenix
:iconcommentplz::icondonotplz::iconusemyartplz:
Here's Garnett! Oh Garnett, I'm liking you more now. You know how you don't notice something until after you post it? Well, that was the case with Garnett. I didn't like his design as much. I tried taking out those little feathers, but he'd look too much like Jet, so I left them in. Also darkened the orange and made his beak bigger. That is all.

Garnett Mythos is the eldest of the Mythos family, their head and the chief of the Mythsetia Veil. He is ruthless, cruel and uncaring, lacking any kind of remorse to others. He holds a grudge against his sister Azure after she ran away, thwarting his plans for world destruction, which required all nine of them. When disloyalty continued spurring among his siblings, Garnett set his little sister Shamrock on fire to use her an as example of what would happen if anyone were to betray him. Now he hunts his sister down with no mercy.

Vision: "Does the artwork present or reflect a point of view, theme or idea?" Honestly, I would not fully peg him as a villain by simply looking at him. He does have a fierce gaze, but I could name more than a few Sonic characters who do have such a gaze and are not villains. I actually had to read his bio to find out he is the big bad guy. However, there are two things that could be seen as menacing; and its all in his feather paint. His legs have red flames on them, with red sometimes being seen as a color of anger or something negative or villainous. Also, he's got these paint bits on his beak that look like fangs. They also do look menacing. So you get points there. However, the vision I get from him is not your typical regal idea of royal clothes and crowns. His tipped feathers, exposed feet claws and golden anklets make hims seem more like a tribal chief instead of a typical look of a king.

Originality: "Is the artwork fresh or new in its style, execution or approach? Is it something you haven't seen before in its particular genre? Does it surprise you?" A phoenix is a new and very cool addition to the Sonic universe. Things like phoenixes, dragons, and griffins add a mythological aspect; a nice touch.

Technique: "Was the artwork skillfully created? Does the artist exhibit advanced knowledge of the medium and/or bring special focus to the craft of the medium used?" There is so much detail here, but still a few jarring bits. Starting with the good, the colors are vibrant, bright, and various. I see green, orange, red, white, yellow, and blue. I think he might have the most diverse color pallet than many other Sonic characters I've seen. He also definitely looks like a bird, with the tail feathers looking real enough and those feathers on his arms seeming legit. The head is also immensely detailed. Those blue tipped feathers on his head are nicely done and drawn very well. But, those feathers on his arms seemed a little odd to me. Now I know that it is said he can tuck his feathers into his gloves, but I can't help but think that must be uncomfortable for him. I would probably throw the gloves away. Also, the shoes confuse me a bit. I can't fully tell if they are supposed to be open-tipped shoes or some kind of foot-wraps. The way the lines go give me the impression of foot-wraps, but its just one of those things that I can't put my finger on.

Impact: "Does the artwork resonate with you or evoke strong emotions? Does it make you think? Does it blow your mind?" I have two main emotions when it comes to Garnett; admiration and spite. I admire his regal and almost tribal appearance. He looks the part and seriousness just oozes from him. I despise how he treats his people though. A good leader looks after his people first and his own needs second. Garnett does not do that, a trait that does not sit well with me. Does that mean I hate him as a character? No. He is a good villain and definitely one worthy of the Sonic villains hall of fame.

Personal Thoughts: I've already given you more than enough of my personal thoughts on this guy, so this section will remain bare to avoid being repetitive. Sorry.

You know...I know a GENIUS way for Garnett to fulfill his "dream" without ANY of his siblings, at least nor for any longer than a few minutes. All he would need is Eggman's help...or just steal and reprogram it.

Eggman's greatest creation; METAL SONIC! Metal can scan and copy data from others, organic or robotic, and then FLAWLESSLY replicate their abilities. That would be INSANE. Garnett could in a sense, allow the great ancestor Mythos to "live again", but in this robotic shell; a robot that can now control all 9 elements of his family. He could then use Metal Sonic as his instrument of destruction.

Garnett could take his siblings, willing or no, and place them in front of Metal Sonic one by one until...

Metal Sonic: All Mythos life form data...has been copied.
Garnett: Excellent. Now...The time has come for us to rise! Go forth, Metal Sonic. Destroy...EVERYTHING!

Very interesting idea. However in my story I'm making it an effort to not involve Eggman at all. Plus, Garnett has a distinct hatred and mistrust for "surface dwellers" so it doesn't feel like Garnett would seek help from one. He's also far too proud to ask for someone's help.

And actually, it's funny you mention the copying thing. But that's a story for another day :3

Oh that's fine if Eggman isn't involved. Twas just an idea for that ambitious Phoenix. And I don't intend to influence how you write your story. As a writer myself, I prefer to let my stories come out the way I want them, not how others want them.

And...this idea had NOTHING to do with the fact that I'm a HUGE Metal Sonic fan. (I'm such a bad liar.) XD

Really? Because Metal Sonic being your icon didn't tell me that at allllll *rolls eyes*

But I totally understand. It is always nice to hear how someone else might want to approach something because it can always give me a new idea, even if my story's main plot has been well cemented.

dude, you make frackin awesome characters. i was blown away when i first visited your gallary. unlike a good many artist, you care about the fn characters you create and even give them personality. it takes great imagination and talent to do that. thank you for knowning what a true artist is- creating, not copying

same here. i just love inventing characters! Scrattack is my own character, who used to be based of of the sonic character standard, but now he's more of his own style, more or less.
