Description

It might be a while before I upload another Sonic character, mostly because they're super minor characters and I have yet to actually draw and design the rest of them, which is hard enough already since I think I've almost exhausted my Sonic character ideas. I mean, there's only so much one person can think up.

In my content, Alex is Silver's present day ancestor, which is why he is a psychic and has the same markings on his hands as Silver. I didn't want to do hedgehogs because of my personal rule, so I made it something close to hedgehogs. Because Silver is his future descendant, I tried to stick with Silver's color scheme a bit.

Alexander "Alex" Psyche, 25, is the head of the House of Psyche and the older brother to Phoebe. When he was still in the womb, he had a twin brother. However, at some point, he accidently reabsorbed his brother and wound up gaining the combined psychic potential of two individuals. As a result, his powers are very unstable and most often too much for him to bear. In hopes of helping him to control his powers, Anubis of the House of Galen constructed a headpiece that would act as a limit for his powers. He also has complete hetrochromia and is a very mature young man with a strong sense of responsibility.

As Alex got older, he began showing signs of a some form of split personality disorder, though to this day, he does not appear psychotic. He was known to talk to himself on several occasions while also referring to himself as "we" or "us." While some have offered to help Alex treat this disorder, he strongly declines, believing this second personality to be that of his unborn twin brother. Unlike an actual case of dissociative personality disorder, the two do not fight for dominance and rather work together in a mutualistic relationship. As the head of the House of Psyche, Alex holds many responsibilities and has never failed to live up to his duties, despite his "condition." In fear that his powers would fall out of control, he entrusts his family's relic, the Blade of Psyche, to his sister Phoebe.

Now I'm sure having a split personality but in a mutualistic relationship may seem cheesy to you, but really I thought it over. If I had him be a bit more mentally unstable, it would have really screwed up the workings of their society. There's already one crazy: Garnett and he's as sociopathic as they come (remember? The guy who set his own sister on fire?). Yeah, I couldn't add too much crazy into the mix. Plus, Alex is the head of his family, I needed him to be mentally stable. Sure Phoebe could have been the family head if Alex was compromised, but she's too young.

Vision: There is so many ideas and themes going on here and they all mesh very well with Alex here. The theme of him have an unborn twin brother and heterochromia makes for a nice theme for the character. The idea that his brother might have had a different eye color but instead he now has both eye colors is quite neat. Another thing to talk about is his apparent lineage; as he is Silver's ancestor. The vision and theme of Silver is caught nicely with him having white fur, psychic-based powers, similar color-themed clothes, and those trademark hand circles. Actually due to my research, I found out that moonrats actually do have a milky white fur color. All these little things add up to make this idea of Silver being a descendant of Alex more legitimate and less cheesy.

Originality: A psychic moonrat with heterochromia and a slight case of dissociative personality disorder...quite the original design here. I don't think a moonrat has ever been seen in any Sonic media, so that is good, not to mention one with split personalities. His head piece that he wears also adds more to him. As you mentioned his powers were in flux and sometimes hard to control, and that alone is an original enough design except for your other character, Azure though. But having it be a head piece rather than wrist gauntlets is fitting since his powers are more mental themed than Azure's. Even if that was not the thought when designing this guy, it just makes the idea seem more convincing. The only thing that takes away from his originality is a basic copy-paste of Silver the Hedgehog's powers. I know it is explained, but still...had to be said.

Technique: Honestly, I find this picture to be quite beautiful to look at. While some of your pics had so much going for them to the point where my eyes were almost bleeding (not necessarily a bad thing), this one has enough to give it substance without being overbearing or too bland. The colors are soothing and relaxing. Now I do like how you actually drew whiskers on this guy, a trait common in most rodents. I can't say I've seen that often and it adds more to the picture. However, I'd like to bring up those cuffs on his wrists. I can't fully tell if those are supposed to be fur patches on his arms or cuffs on his gloves.

Impact: I think of so much when the subject of Alexander and all that is applied to him. His backstory is full and vibrant, complete with events that are relevant even before his birth. The one big thing I find neat about his split personality thing is that it is not full confirmed. He may believe his brother his subconsciously with him, but it is not confirmed and its all a matter of perspective on his part and on your viewers. This part of his personality stirs many emotions within me, including by not limited to admiration, sympathy, and even pity. I also find it humbling that despite his position as head of Psyche, he does not keep his family's sword, instead giving it to the other member of House Psyche.

Personal Thoughts: Now among the characters that have not had a prominent role in your stories as of yet, this guy is definitely one that I'd like to see more of, up there with the beetle brothers and Corvus. He's probably (as of right now) in my top 5 list of your supporting characters. I haven't created a top 5 or even top 10 list yet, but still...he's up there. In all honesty, there's really only 2 negative things I can say about Alex. The first being that his powers are a bit unoriginal as this concept has been done with Silver, not to mention it is blatantly mentioned they are related to Silver. The second is that...well...he hasn't been featured much in your world. That second one is just a personal thing though and has no bearing no how I rated this picture and character concept. Overall, I love this character so much and hope to see him more.
